Is it for me?
This is a practical hands on qualification which will give you the knowledge and skills you require in the following occupational areas:

    • Access control systems
    • Intruder alarm systems
    • Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) systems
    • Fire detection and alarm systems

    The qualification is aimed at:

    • Those already employed within the sector but looking for formal national recognition.
    • Those who are unemployed and looking to become a Security Systems Engineer.

    How much does the training cost?
    • Employed: Delivered under T2G: If you are aged 19 or over and do not already have a full level 2 qualification (NVQ level 2, BTEC first Diploma, GNVQ Intermediate, 5 GCSEs or O Levels grades A-C) you can study a full level 2 qualification FREE of charge.
    • Unemployed: Delivered FREE of charge ‘under back to work programme’
    • Apprentices: Can be delivered under the ‘Apprenticeship Scheme’ as the qualification forms the technical certificate for the Electronic Emergency & Security Systems Foundation Modern Apprenticeship.
    • Commercial delivery to companies: Bespoke packages could be tailored to the client’s requirements covering the syllabus.

    What do I need?
    There are no entry requirements

    When you start
    You’ll be fully inducted onto the course and receive information, advice and guidance on the course content and your options on completion.

    Duration?
    15 weeks

    Course content
    Qualification covers the following:
    Mandatory units:
    • Electrical & Electronic Principles in Electro Technical Environments
    • Working effectively and safely in Electro Technical Environments

    And successfully complete one of the following units:

    • Access control systems
    • Intruder alarm systems
    • Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) systems
    • Fire detection and alarm systems

    Progression
    Learners can progress onto the 17th Edition Wiring Regulations, Level 2 or 3 NVQ in Providing Security Emergency and Alarm Systems & the Level 3 Certificate in Knowledge of Security and Emergency Alarm Systems.

      • Communicate effectively in the workplace.
      • Contribute to maintaining effective working relationships.

       

      And successfully complete four of the following units:

      • Make preparations and arrangements to install security, emergency or alarm systems.
      • Install cabling for security, emergency or alarm systems.
      • Install security, emergency or alarm equipment.
      • Test and confirm operation of security, emergency or alarm systems.
      • Commission and hand over security, emergency or alarm systems.
      • Maintain the performance of security, emergency or alarm systems.
      • Diagnose and rectify faults on security, emergency or alarm systems.

      Progression
