Who is the qualification for?

The qualification is suitable for those seeking recognition of their competence within a variety of telecommunications and data communications related activities.
For unemployed persons seeking work, programs are scheduled over a 13 week period with attendance required two days each week. The courses take place throughout the year and have been very successful in helping people get employment in the industry.

What are the entry requirements?

There are no entry requirements or age restrictions for the qualification. It is open to any candidate who has the potential to meet the requirements of the qualification.

How is the course assessed?

The course is assessed for practical ability and underpinning knowledge. Observations assessing practical application take place in our own (simulation) workshop. If you are employed you can be assessed at your place of work. Successful completion of three on-line assessments is required.

How does this qualification improve my career prospects?

By providing a nationally recognized qualification in specialist communication technology and the opportunity to ‘personalize’ the qualification to meet the specific needs of your work place.

Where can this qualification lead me?

Candidates can progress onto Levels 3 & 4 for Communication Technology Professionals or diversify into related sectors: Contact Centers & IT due to the fundamental relationships built into the standards and structures.

What will I study on the course?

Candidates are required to take eight units:

  • Develop personal and organizational effectiveness
  • Health & Safety
  • Interpersonal & written communication
  • Technical fault remedy selection
  • Technical fault diagnosis
  • Testing ICT systems
  • Working with ICT hardware and equipment
  • E-mail or Word Processing

How long will it take?

The qualification usually takes between 3 to 6 months to complete. This will be agreed by you with your assessor, to meet your individual requirements.

Who is the qualification for?

The qualification is suitable for those working within a variety of telecommunications, IT and Contact Centre sectors.

A key feature of this NVQ is the flexibility to customize training to meet your specific needs and to adapt the qualification to meet individual skills levels.
You will need to be employed and working at a supervisory or technician level. The qualification will be assessed at your work place while you are on program.

The course is targeted to CT professionals and technicians working with IT systems and equipment.

With these qualifications you could, for example, work as an engineer (network, software and hardware), or in cabling or fault finding and repair.

What will I study on the course?

The candidate needs to complete the required number of units, which are available at three levels. It is possible that you could mix units from different levels in any one qualification. Each NVQ must contain the unit: Develop Personal and Organisational Effectiveness at least at Level 3 and Health and Safety in ICT and Contact Centers at least at Level 1. The particular circumstances of the candidate and employer may cause them to draw upon other units at higher or lower levels in order to achieve the qualification.

To be awarded a full NVQ Level 3, candidates must achieve a minimum of 180 unit credits.

Who can take this qualification?

This qualification is appropriate for you if you are, or want to become, a technician, manager or network designer and need an introduction to the area. There are no entry requirements for this qualification.

To gain the full qualification candidates must pass the core unit (unit 1) plus one from the range of optional units, (units 2-4). A total of two units are required to achieve the award, which can be achieved in any order.

How does this qualification improve my career prospects?

How does this qualification improve my career prospects?
This qualification is accepted as the technical certificate for the Advanced Modern Apprenticeship in Communication Technology

What does it involve?

You will need to take three core units:

  • Develop, manage and support the communications systems environment
  • Fundamentals of electronic communications
  • Networking communications devices.

You can then choose any of the following pathways, each of which has one further unit.

  • Voice and Data Communications
  • Radio Systems
  • Transmission and Switching
  • Network Management and Security
  • Install, Commission and Maintain
  • Communications Cabling for Enterprise Networks

Each unit will be assessed by a short answer test and an assignment which will assess practical activities. This award is a focused and designed to help you to quickly pick up the major principles of the area. It is also recognised as the technical certificate for Advanced Modern Apprenticeship. The Communications Cabling for Enterprise Networks pathway provides progression if you have successfully completed the level 2 Communications Cabling award.

How long will it take?
As part of the Advanced Modern Apprenticeship in Communication Technology this qualification will take between 24 and 36 months to complete.
